We’re near RYEN’s Wedding Dinner! =)

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

Wow! Time flies; i mean - we’re less than two weeks to Yen and my Wedding Dinner! I was just wondering if anyone could be bother to read these thoughts I wrote until I received a pleasant surprise of a few comments! A big thank you to Shuhui, Shirley and David! Your comments make my day! =)

As my wife liked the ballroom that we are using at Meritus, we have to have a minimum of fifty tables. Fifty!! We’re not rich, or anywhere near well-to-do! But since it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I want this remain etched in her and our guests that this dinner is a pleasant one, that I’ve gone for broke. And we’ve gone further to create pleasant surprises during the dinner, in the form of the wedding photo-slideshow that you normally see (well; I’ll have none of that - it’s cliched!), the sights during the dinner (a secret!), and the wedding favour (no chopstick, chocolate or the likes!).

No yum-seng (which almost always, fails), no sabotage (i hope!), and i really hope all my guests could arrive early (on time, at least), so that the dinner could start as arly as possible, and not need to drag it to as late as eleven!

Before we know it, we’re less than two weeks away! We’re not ready - at least Yen isn’t very ready, with the work piling up for her from the hospital. But it can’t be helped, the show must go on. It’s our show! I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that Murphy stays away from us for as long as possible!

Food tasting

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

Food tasting for our dinner took place last night.  The hotel gave us a table of 10 pax for food tasting, and i guess it took place rather late for us.  I mean, it’s just another two to three weeks more!

We don’t have really big families, so my wife (YES!, my wife!  =P) gave me the go-ahead to get some close friends who would be helping out during the dinner itself to come along for food tasting; they would be with us during photo taking that they wouldn’t be able to eat to their heart’s content.

So I got four close friends (Zhenshun a.k.a. Wilson, Jianwei, Jianhong and Ceyu) to go with us (our mums, Jason - Yen’s brother, Huijun - my brother Eddie’s girlfriend and the two of us) to go for the makan.  Wenqiang’s vegan, Eddie, Shiyong and Zhaozhong weren’t free.  I would have asked more friends along if I had more places…

And so we ate.  The food’s quite good, but really, we are not food critics, so as long as the food tastes okay generally, then i guess it was fine with us.  Could we have done it any other way?  No!  =)

First blog of the new phase in my life - a married man =)

Tuesday, June 7th, 2005

It’s official - Ryen is now man and wife!  =)

That’s a big step in our lives.  I left home at about eight this morning to go to her place to fetch her, and the hired makeup artist, Lydia, was already helping her out with makeup and later, her hair.

A close group of our friends reached JURONG SPRING COMMUNITY CLUB one after another to witness our marriage solemnisation.  There were Yin Fang and husband from Yen’s side, Jianwei, Jianhong, Wenqiang and Ceyu on my end.  Zhaozhong and Shiyong joined us for lunch later.  Yes, not forgetting our mothers, two younger brothers - Eddie and Heng Joon, and my sister-in-law-to-be (think this is the correct way to address her??), Huijun.

After our short but integral exchanging of vows, we took some photographs and went to BAKERZIN, Orchard @ The Atrium (beside Plaza Singapura) for lunch.  Had a wonderful time!

So okay, the ring which Yen put on my finger has found a place to stay now.  It feels a little funny and takes some getting used to, but I’ll gladly let it sit there for the rest of my life…  =)

Shopping for a suit for ROM =)

Friday, June 3rd, 2005

Yen and I are going to have our marriage registered early next week.  I was happily thinking about it yesterday when a thought suddenly hit me - "What am I going to wear?!"  I have shorts galore, but not a proper one that I thoughtcould fit the occasion.

And so, I went off to Orchard yesterday afternoon, trying to grab a nice suit.  I have never bought a proper business suit, so imagine my horror when I found well-known brands’ ones ranging from $1k - $3k!  Whoa!  And my next job as a PE teacher won’t require me to wear one, so that’s perhaps not the wisest investment!  I’m not being stingy, but that really costs a lot!

I walked around in search for one that cost about $100+, and I finally found one in one of the boutiques on the 3rd level in THE HEEREN.  I can’t remember how much it cost it, but the not-so-formal blazer and a nice shirt cost me about $200-odd.  It’s greyish in colour, and the next thing I’ll have to do these few days is to find a suitable pair of pants…  phew!  =)
